Richmond College - Remembering 1970

RT19700526_graduation_p1.pdf

The Class of 2020 has experienced a difficult final semester. A pandemic threatens to derail their traditional commencment ceremony and festivities. But this is not the first time seniors had to give up on the usual ending to their college years. 50 years ago, at the height of the Vietnam War and the protests at home, Richmond College made the decision to forego their commencement in the weeks following the shootings at Kent State. This exhibit highlights articles from The Richmond Times that describe protests and rallies held on campus and on Staten Island in the months leading up to the Kent State shooting on May 4, 1970, and articles that discuss the fallout of the Vietnam War.
